About

I’m Roberto Hoyos, professionally known as Throwboy. I learned to sew from my grandmother, who ran a sewing factory in Seattle, and I have carried those traditions into my work as an artist and maker. In 2007, I created a set of hand-sewn computer icon pillows that unexpectedly went viral, launching Throwboy as a name known for playful, finely crafted pieces inspired by technology and pop culture.

What began with pillows has since grown into a broader creative practice rooted in soft sculpture and interactive art. From my artist residency and retail space in downtown Seattle, I design and sew every piece in my studio. My recent works include Soft Power, a chair made from Rainbow Heart Pillows, and Selfie TV, a retro CRT television that displays affirmations and has become an unofficial Seattle landmark.

Across everything I create, whether a pillow, installation, or public work, my aim is to spark joy, curiosity, and connection. As a proud Peruvian-American, I continue to honor the craftsmanship my grandmother passed down to me, blending tradition with new ideas under the name Throwboy.
